San Diego Police Canine ‘Earp’ and his handler were sent to a disturbance at a residence.  They arrived and found a man holding a knife covered in blood.

The suspect charged Earp and his handler at which time Earp was sent to disarm the man. The suspect stabbed Earp then raised the knife over his head and charged officers.  They were forced to shoot the man to protect themselves.

Earp’s handler rushed him to the vet trauma center were he was stabilized with a stab wound to the carotid artery.  Earp is expected to make a full recovery.
