Reiko Recovering

Retired Canine Officer Reiko Home After Neck Surgery

Retired Canine Officer Reiko had his neck surgery and is recovering steadily. As you know, Reiko needed back surgery to relieve the pressure from his spine resulting from a ruptured disk. The pressure was causing Reiko to loose control of his legs. After the KUSI News ran a story about the dog's needs many donors responded.

On January 21st 2004, the Animal Medical Center of East County conducted the surgery.  The staff was very caring and worked well with an injured Reiko. Many police dogs do not respond warmly to unknown people touching them.  The staff understood this and as a result of their professionalism and care they had no problems working around Reiko.

On January 23rd 2004, Reiko's handler pick him up and brought him home.  He came home to a warm bed and plenty of love from the handlers family.  We are happy to say it looks like Reiko will recover and live a comfortable retirement.

Once again, the members of the S.D.P.C.A. would like to thank those who donated and expressed support for the canine unit and the S.D.P.C.A.
