Retired Canine Officer Reiko Home After 2nd Surgery

From Reiko's handler (March 2004):

Reiko underwent his second surgery with Dr. Nancy Hampel on February 20th. She removed ligament that surrounded the spinal column in the same area where the first surgery removed the ruptured disc.

Reiko is pain free and his medication is slowly being reduced. He seems to be doing fine with the decreasing dosage of medication. He still has some neurological interference that causes him to have difficulty walking. The hope is that this condition will improve over time and he will eventually be walking normally in several months. Time will tell.

The Animal Medical Center of El Cajon has been wonderful and provided excellent care for Reiko. Dr. Hampel has practically adopted Reiko as her own pet
